The Heckman Tape
At the behest of the police and the FBI, WIBC news director Fred Heckman attended the “Thursday Night News Conference” on February 10, 1977. After the conference finally ended, police directed Tony to a model apartment to await the $5 million promissory note, the last demand to be met before he would release Dick Hall. Heckman followed and stood next to Kiritsis throughout the final moments of the standoff. What many were not aware of was that Heckman was taping the entire conversation with a personal audio recorder.
